AI only does what it is designed to do. And since it’s a tool, if we designed it to do harm it’ll do harm.

It’s true that AI agents are used to perform complex, goal-oriented tasks and are designed to operate autonomously, but they perform it within specific domains, such as recommending products, managing customer interactions, or scheduling tasks.
And although these systems might seem independent as they can initiate actions and make decisions based on inputs, their "autonomy" is fundamentally limited to the scope of their programming and training.
To give you an example, an AI customer service agent might analyze a user’s query and respond with a solution. This might give it the appearance of independent problem-solving. However, the responses are generated within the parameters of pre-defined rules or learned patterns from training data.
It cannot develop new goals or make decisions outside its domain, and it does not "understand" the conversation in a human sense.
